During the first week of May, the Barcelona Institute of Architecture, BIArch, will host the International Symposium City and Society in the Post-Industrial Glocal Age. The symposium is jointly organized by the BIArch, the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, the Schusev National Museum of Architecture, MUAR, the Center of Contemporary Architecture, CSA, and the Higher School of Economics, HSE, these three last institutions from Moscow.
The participants are experts, professors, young professionals, and students of architecture and economics. Following interdisciplinary intentions, the symposium is articulated around four working sessions, addressing the economic, social, productive, and architectural paradigms of the contemporary city and its future development.
On Thursday May 5th
Jorge García de la Cámara, Director of the Barcelona Institute of Architecture, BIArch and Irina Korobina, Director of Shusev Museum of Architecture will introduce the event with the opening remarks. The symposium will officially begin with the first working session titled Future of the City, where professor Josep Acebillo will lecture on new urban paradigms followed by the work presentation of the Moscow architect Yuri Gigoryan.
The second working session on New Urban Economy will take place in the afternoon with the interventions of Daniel Serra, Sergey Medvedev and Irina Korobina. Professor Daniel Serra will address urban logistics whereas professor Sergey Medvedev and architect Irina Korobina will present the Moscow new urban panorama.
On Friday May 6th
The symposium will resume with the third working session on New Urban Social Conditions and the lecture on urban commons by professor Pep Subirós, followed by the description of current strategies of development in the emerging world by Valentin Romanov, CEO of SUN Group Russia.
The last working session, Architecture in the Post-Fordism Age, will be entrusted to discuss the post-utopian identity in Russia with the architect Sergey Sitar.
The event will end up with a lecture by Josep Lluís Mateo who will also introduce the common discussion on the main topics addressed during the symposium.
