It has been an exciting couple of weeks at BIArch. The first edition of the MBIArch program officially launched on September 13th, and the Opening Ceremony for the academic year held in the Auditorium of La Pedrera featured a Master Class by prominent Japanese architet Riken Yamamoto, titled “The City as Infrastructure + Facilities.”
The Mayor of Barcelona, Jordi Hereu, as well as the key figures linked to the Institute such as Josep Lluís Mateo, Narcís Serra and Andreu Mas-Collel, welcomed the inauguration of the 2010-11 academic year as a reafirmation of the city’s relevance in and commitment to contemporary architecture as well as a testimony to BIArch’s ambition of becoming a prominent center for architectural debates and production in Europe and around the globe.

After receving over 100 applications from 35 different countries, 24 bright young architects with very diverse backgrounds have been accepted to the program. We will soon be sharing highlights from the rich (and intense) calendar of academic activities and events that are scheduled for this first semester at the Institute.
