Forthcoming: Open Seminars – Vito Acconci

Events

25/10/2010

The Fall 2010 BIArch Open Seminar series, Work in Progress: Contemporary Approaches to Architecture History, Theory, and Criticism, offers current assessments of the discipline from a variety of perspectives within a participative framework.  The series provides a space for lecturers to share, test, and discuss their ideas, topics, or methodologies with an engaged audience.

BIArch Open Seminars - Vitto Acconci

The first seminar of the series will feature noted contemporary artist and designer, Vitto Acconci. As a designer and landscape architect as well as a performance and installation artist, Acconci (The Bronx, New York, 1940), is a remarkable figure within both contemporary art and architecture. In 1988 he founded Acconci Studio, an experimental architectural practice based in Brooklyn that has recently developed projects such as the artificial Mur Island (Graz, 2003), the United Bamboo Store in Tokyo (2003), the recently-restored facade of the Storefront for Art and Architecture (New York, 1993) which Acconci designed with together Steven Holl, and a “mobile art laboratory”, Mr. Artsee (2006).

Vito Acconci will be introduced by Jorge García de la Cámara, Director of the Barcelona Institute of Architecture.
