MBIArch Post-Professional Master's Degree in Architecture Program

BIArch is an open laboratory for professionals and researchers that promotes new ways of thinking and practicing architecture in face of technological, energy, and economic conditions in permanent change. The Institute's academic core is the MBIArch: a post-professional Master’s degree program for individuals holding a professional degree in architecture.

The program combines advanced theoretical and design-based research and production and requires one year of full-time study. The MBIArch covers 60 ECTS credits, with a degree awarded by the Institute and recognized by the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, and is offered entirely in English. The MBIArch program starts in September 2010More

Curriculum

The MBIArch program concentrates on five areas of interdisciplinary studies which define the courses, seminars and design studios:

The exploration of these areas will be carried out throughout the academic year, which is structured around two distinct phases:

Phase 1: Concepts - Analysis - Case Studies

The first phase will be analytical and theoretical, establishing a conceptual basis for design production and work through introductory courses and research case studies, as well as critical and design seminars.  More

Phase 2: Production - Research

Following a selective examination period, candidates that complete the first phase satisfactorily will continue on to the second phase of the program, centered on a core Design Studio, design-based research, and operative or technological exploration through projects.  More
